The demand for face masks in urban Vietnam is increasingly developing. Take a street tour and you’ll note that 8 out of every 10 traffic participants are wearing face masks. What are the driving forces behind this phenomenon, and are face masks needed in Vietnam?
Yes, whether you want to commute by bike or motorbike in urban areas such as Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. However, if you know you’ll be taking taxis or using Grab, we recommend skipping it.
Now, keep in mind that the often-used surgical masks would not shield you. They lack the proper filter, and there is insufficient evidence of their effectiveness against contaminants. They simply make it easier to breathe. As a result, you can think of buying Mr. Druk’s AQ Blue, N95, or 3M disposable masks, which are specially built to tackle emissions.
Disposable face masks are commonly available in Vietnam at very low prices in convenience stores and pharmacies. Nonetheless, since you’ll be approaching busy areas, such as international airports, it’s a good idea to prepare uniform medical face masks ahead of time. Here are some of our suggestions.
Hand sanitizer: Vietnam is the land of finger snacks, and you’ll also be dining at a streetside store for some traditional Vietnamese fare. Have a tube of hand sanitizer on hand if you want to visit the food world germ-free.
To get rid of bacteria, alcohol wipes are also a good option.
Insect repellent: Whether you’re visiting rural areas of Vietnam, such as the Mekong Delta or the Northwest, insect repellent will keep you safe from mosquito and bug bites. In the tropical climate, a lotion-based repellent fits well.
Sunscreen: Because you don’t want to risk getting a sunburn and spoil the fun on your travel. Prioritize a sunscreen spray if you’re planning on a lot of outdoor activities, like camping, hiking, or motorbiking in Vietnam
