Island Peak

Imja Tse, also known as Island Peak, is a mountain in eastern Nepal’s Himalaya. Eric Shipton’s party named the peak Island Peak in 1951 because it appears to be an island in an ice sea when viewed from Dingboche. The peak was renamed Imja Tse in 1983, but Island Peak remains the most popular choice. The peak is actually an extension of the ridge that descends from Lhotse Shar’s south end.
